Applications & Admission Requirements

For many undergraduate programs, applications are made through the Central Applications Office (CAO), the central application system for higher education in Ireland. The universities themselves set the entry requirements and decide which candidates are accepted. 

For students from Cyprus and other candidates with qualifications other than the Irish Leaving Certificate, careful consideration is needed as to how their qualifications are assessed and the supporting documents required. The CAO notes that candidates with different educational qualifications must submit the relevant supporting documents. 

Some programs may also have additional requirements, exams, portfolio, interview, or specific prerequisite courses.

Tuition Fees for European Students

One of Ireland's most important advantages is the Free Fees Initiative.

Eligible full-time students in approved undergraduate programs may be covered by the state for tuition fees. However, free coverage does not automatically apply to every European student: there are specific criteria, including those relating to nationality/status and habitual residence. 

For European students who meet the requirements of Free Fees Initiative, the state covers tuition fees in eligible undergraduate programs, while students pay Student Contribution €2.500 ετησίως.

Those who do not meet the Free Fees Initiative criteria may be eligible for a different EU fee rate, which is determined by the respective educational institution.

Accommodation needs to be organized quite early, especially in Dublin and the larger student cities

Working During Studies

EU citizens can live and work in Ireland without needing a visa or work permit. This is a significant advantage for Cypriot students who wish to gain work experience alongside their studies.
